COCOA ISLAND BY COMO

Marvel at the Maldives’ natural charms

The stunning sandbank zigzags across the turquoise lagoon like a bolt of lightning on Cocoa Island, until it eventually melts into the bubbles of the waves. Strolling along the white shoreline, baby reef sharks dart through the crystal clear water under a cloudless sky; the perfect sheltered nursery.

Just 350 by 115 metres, this small island’s natural beauty has been delicately preserved. The owner, Christina Ong of Como Hotels and Resorts, has maintained the island’s tranquility, while adding a level of sophistication.

The 33 luxurious wooden villas on the island each resemble a traditional Maldivian sailing ‘dhoni’ and are furnished with stylish five-star comforts.

The island has been left almost as nature intended: both the trees and birds are indigenous. Water hens forage and the occasional heron quietly contemplates the fish in the lagoon. The translucent waters remain richly populated. A vibrant reef is within easy reach. Divers will be astounded by the spectacular underwater scenery; not to mention the reef sharks, barracuda, napoleon wrasse and moray eels.

The cuisine is unbeatable, particularly the exotic breakfast feasts. Distractions include sunset dolphin cruises, star-gazing and of course the world-famous Como Shambhala Spa.
