Egyptian officials have unveiled plans to increase the quality of service across the country’s museum, tourism and archaeological sites.
Spearheaded by the country’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, standards will be upgraded across Al-Moez Street in Old Cairo, the capital’s Citadel, and museums within Alexandria, Fayoum, Sohag and Luxor.
A ministerial committee will be set up to improve these tourism services, entrusted with carrying out studies and site visits to determinate the needs of each location. According to Mostafa Waziry, secretary-general for the Supreme Council of Antiquities, the committee will, among other things, introduce explanatory panels and maps to sites, develop visitor centres, introduce new seating areas, and improve disabled access and recycling facilities.
